June Monthly Edit
Autoimmunity taking the front row in VC funding, OBGYN visits needing a remodel, Rhode being inclusive, and indigenous beauty products going mainstream!!!
This month, I feel like sooo much has been shifting for me. It could be the energies of the Gemini New Moon, but honestly, I think it may just be months of small work I’ve been putting in, building into something much bigger than I could have even imagined.
This summer feels busy in the best of ways. I started a pilates teaching training program, which has been surprisingly more exhausting than I thought it would be. I also manifested a new job opportunity in a completely different sector of the world. It is all happening this summer, so in some ways this is a busyness I haven’t felt in a long time. But it feels REALLY GOOD. I used to associate “busy” with this negativity because most of what I was busy doing felt out of alignment and unexciting. Now, my busyness looks very different and actually brings me a lot of happy and joyous energy.
Overall, I feel really grateful and am soaking up what feels like the last couple of months of a life I used to know. This year feels different. This summer feels different. Last June, I was exploring the depths of the French Riviera and attending weddings in French Chateauxs. This year, I am attending a 7-hour pilates teacher training on my birthday and balancing my own coaching business with a new editorial position. Life feels abundant in a very different way, but no matter how it feels - these past two summers in all their oppositeness - have felt the most like me in the last 10 years of my life.
Ok, ok. Done with the life updates. This segment is about women’s health updates and beauty updates, so enjoy all that’s happening in these worlds. It’s actually pretty exciting. As usual, education is power, so get in the know.
Beauty Updates
If you haven’t been on social media - good for you - but also, you missed a pretty big launch in the realm of inclusivity. Rhode launched its summer collection, including bronzers and glowy milks that make most brands trying to do skin inclusivity look really f**king bad. The truth is, Hailey Bieber is a genius and partnered with known darker skin beauty creators (like Tony Bravo and Golloria) to formulate a wide range of colors that pretty much work for EVERY SINGLE skin tone. It is inspiring and actually super powerful. Conversations over the years around whether darker skin women actually even need bronzer are being silenced as this launch proves any skin color should be able to enjoy ALL the benefits of each makeup step.
Is it just me, or are you seeing PDRN, aka Salmon Sperm, EVERYWHERE right now? I’m not sure how I feel about it, but as most people know, I am willing to try anything once. My problem is finding a clean formulation to try, but I think I found one here. In general, it’s good for cellular regeneration and repair by binding receptors that support tissue repair and increase blood flow. Interesting, I like the science, and I’ll let you know how my trial goes. I’ll probably start small with a little spray….
Nopalera, which is a staple fragrance and lifestyle brand on the West Coast, just closed $4M in seed funding. This is a small San Antonio-based brand that gives the vibes of your Mexican, curandurismo grandmother, and it is soooo lux but also homey that the smells transport you straight back to Mexican homeland. Suffice to say, I love this brand and its ethos, so that’s pretty cool that more traditional, Latina-centered brands like this are being noticed. FYI, the cactus body soap is a vibe. If you aren’t afraid of a bit of fragrance, it’s definitely a beautifully cultivated brand.
Saie Beauty is educating its clean beauty users with these AMAZING makeup classes. I have been to two already, and I absolutely loved them. They teach you how to color-match, apply different products, and achieve certain looks. It’s super unique and extremely helpful. You can find them here.
Women’s Health Updates
Autoimmunity Biosolutions is a targeted autoimmune therapy that managed to raise $1M in seed funding over the last month. This could be a game-changer when it comes to autoimmunity treatments, and since women are predominantly the people suffering from autoimmunity, it reveals a gap in healthcare that is starting to be solved.
Cyclana Bio recruited its first human subjects for its Endometriosis study, which is aiming to determine what causes endometriosis in specific populations via biopsies and menstrual fluid diagnostics! This is actually a really big deal, because if we can determine who gets endometriosis through menstrual fluids, then we can also start to determine how to prevent it! Again, another big deal when it comes to advancing women’s health treatments and prevention.
The PCOS to PMOS name change has stirred some controversy. People are predicting the ways the name change may influence solutions for women suffering from this condition, and how it is not enough. If you missed my piece on this, you can catch it linked below.
They Just Renamed PCOS to PMOS. Here Is Everything Your Doctor Has Not Told You Yet.
·I wrote this article a year ago and it has somehow become more and more relevant. I have added current guidelines, recommendations, and science to the version from 2025 — which feels more important than ever as we enter the conversation around PMOS.
Hims and Hers added Natural Cycles, Flo Health, and other wellness partners to their subscriber benefits. This is streamlining preventive health resources in one place for people who subscribe to them. Kinda genius, so you only need to subscribe to one thing.
I absolutely LOVED this article about the OBGYN visit needing a redesign. I feel like I have been saying this since day one, but GET YOUR REPRODUCTIVE POTENTIALITY CHECKED. It is one of the few things Western Medicine did get right about their women’s health developments, and it is BEYOND inspiring. I wrote this piece about holistic fertility support, but I talk about how knowing your reproductive potential helps you to understand and plan for yourself.
Ancestral Fertility Practices and Western Medical Advancements
·My fertility journey was recently reignited by an unexpected muse: Gisele Bündchen. Not because of the media drama surrounding her recent pregnancy with her new partner, but because — at 44 years old — she conceived naturally, in love, and in alignment. At first, I was shocked. Then I caught myself.
With lots of love from the other side,
Dr. Alysia
